Revelation of the Year

The whole of Africa unites to decide which music artist within the second largest continent in the world is going to be revealed in the Revelation of the Year category of the 5th All African Music Awards, AFRIMA.

This category focus on the rising stars of African Music in their different genre, who have revealed their music career to the world and able to attain popularity and huge followers within a short period of lauching their music career. They represent a breath of fresh air, introducing their own style of music in a dominant music industry.

The nominated artists in the Revelation of the Year category are:

Ammara Brown – a Zimbabwean female singer (Afro-pop/RnB), song writer, actress and brand ambassador. She is the daughter of iconic Zimbabwean singer Andy Brown. Born in Harare, Zimbabwe, she started her career in the 1990. Her Banging single “Akiliz” got her contending in the 5th AFRIMA Revelation of the Year category.

Aya Nakamura – A French R&B singer of Malian origin. Coming from a family of Griots (West African storytellers, praise singers / poets of oral tradition). Aya Nakamura returns with “Djadja” and this earns her a place among the Nominees of the 5th AFRIMA Revelation of the Year category.

Betty G – is a rising star from Ethiopia. Betty G has come back with a brand new album entitled “Wegegta” which also has 13 songs that has a wide range of genres: contemporary, traditional Ethiopian songs, soft rock, and pop. It’s no surprise that she is a nominee for the 5th AFRIMA Revelation of the Year category.

Dadju – a French singer of Congolese heritage. He was signed to the label Wati B and in 2017 signed with Polydor Records of Universal Music Group. Dadju released his solo album Gentleman 2.0 in 2017.
Dadju’s single “Bob Marley” earns him a place among the Nominees of the 5th AFRIMA Revelation of the Year category.

Iyenga – Iyenga is an artist from Congo Democratic. She launched her musical career in gospel in 2017. After some performances with her choir, she gets noticed and launches her solo career. In 2017, Iyenga released her album “Lonkaya”. She proposes her musical universe which mixes rumba and folk.
Her Single “Sorry” has got her nominated for the 5th AFRIMA Revelation of the Year category.

Mayorkun – a singer and songwriter from Osun, Nigeria. He rose to the limelight in 2016 with the release of the song “Eleko” which hit over 1 Million views on YouTube 9 days after it was published and also topped the iTunes chart as number one. His Banging single “Bobo” got him contending in the 5th AFRIMA Revelation of the Year category.

Mimie – born on January 11, 1991 in Douala (Cameroon), Mimie is a singer, rapper and actress. She has successfully built a solid career over the years and this year at the 5th AFRIMA she is a nominee contending in the Revelation of the Year category with her smash single “Ja m’en Fous”.

Shekhinah – a singer-songwriter from Durban, South Africa. Shekhinah is here with her smash single “Please Mr.” contending in the 5th AFRIMA Revelation of the Year category.

Soul Bangs – Born and raised in Guinea Conakry In 2011, he released his first album entitled DIMEDI. An opus in which he explains his tender and painful childhood. By forging a new musical identity, Soul Bang’s is getting closer to his dream of revolutionizing urban music. It’s no surprise that he is a nominee for the the 5th AFRIMA Revelation of the Year category.

Vegedream – born in France. he spent several years in Ivory Coast, home country of his parents, before returning to the Hexagon between the department of 45 and the Paris region. His smash single “La fuite ft. Dj Leska“ has got him contending in the 5th AFRIMA Revelation of the Year category.

Music lovers around the continent have agreed that this list truly represents the current biggest revelations across the 5 regions in Africa. So who do you think will emerge the Revelation of the Year at the 5th AFRIMA come November 2018?
