East Africa’s Finest

East Africa, a region of diverse cultural, traditional, and religious beliefs, come together with all of Africa to decide which artist in the East outdoes the rest. The 23.9 Karat Gold AFRIMA Awards will go to the Best Male Artist in Eastern Africa regional award.

The world class event will be held on the 10th -12 November with the Africa Music Business Roundtable (November 10, 8AM) at the Ballroom, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, The AFRIMA Music Village (November 10, 4PM), at the Waterfront, Bar Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos by 4PM and the Main Awards Ceremony (November 12, 6PM) at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos

The Nominees for the Best Male Artiste in Eastern Africa are:#

Ali Kiba

From Tanzania we have Ali Kiba featuring Nigerian Hip Hop star, M.I in “Aje”, a brilliantly created song that puts Ali Kiba on the map amongst the nominees of the AFRIMA2017 Best Male Artist in Eastern Africa category. The Afro-Pop and Bongo Flava singer and songwriter was voted most popular artist, top selling in East Africa; Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda and in 2015 his song “Aje” was the most downloaded song of the year in East Africa. At the end of 2016 the remixed video to his song Aje was released featuring M.I, the remix brought both talents together to birth a colourful performance.

Diamond Platnumz

 Diamond Platnumz, a loved and well decorated Tanzanian artist, is also nominated for the AFRIMA2017 Best Male Artist in Eastern Africa category for his bongo-flava original “Eneka”. The Tanzanian recording artist and dancer desired a life with music since childhood and in 2009 he recorded his first single titled “Nenda Kamwambie” a song that laid the foundation for his music career as a singer. In 2014 Diamond did a remix to his song “Number One,” featuring the Nigerian artist Davido. The song brought the Diamond Platnumz franchise to the West African scene.

Eddy Kenzo

Amongst the nominees for the AFRIMA2017 Best Male Artist in Eastern Africa category is Eddy Kenzo from Uganda with “Shauri Yako” a beautifully produced video and song shot in Zanzibar.  In 2008 The Ugandan star was featured in a song by Mikie Wine titled “Yanimba,”. In 2010 Kenzo made it to his own music spotlight after the release of his song “Stamina,” and became an internationally recognized artist after the release of his hit single “Sitya Loss” in March 2016. Eddy Kenzo is a man of unique singing style which he brings to the AFRIMA2017 nominated song “Shauri Yako.

Kibrom Birhane

The Ethiopian singer, songwriter and Record mix engineer, Kibrom Birhane is also nominated for the AFRIMA2017 Best Male Artist in Eastern Africa category for his song “Eskista”. Featuring Nassmbu Barasa, Kibrom produces this peculiar Ethiopian Folk with the aptitude to grasp attention. Having studied music in L.A under the likes of Dave Pozzi and Howie Shear who were once instructors of the all-time greats like Celine Dione and Stevie Wonder, Kibrom majors in Ethiopian folk, pop, jazz and gospel music.

Qritiqal

Amongst the nominees for the AFRIMA2017 Best Male Artist in the Eastern Africa category is the Chocolate City’s latest signee from Kenya Qritiqal, with the song “Maliaka.” The Reggae/dancehall singer whose trail in music could be traced back to his school festival days is a young and ready talent. In the nominated single “Malkia” he exposes his flair to a major dancehall beat by Reinhard.

Sinshaw Legesse

Amongst the nominees for the AFRIMA2017, Best Male Artist in the Eastern Africa category is Sinshaw Legesse from Ethiopia with “Salem Ethiopia”. “Salem Ethiopia” is Reggae with a mix of Jazz and Tradition.  Sinshaw Legesse expresses his passion for a peaceful Ethiopia on creatively mixed beats with an awesome  voice.

Mura K.E

From Kenya we have the DJ and Producer; Mura K.E with “Excuse My Language.” The multi-genre DJ/Producer is a rare find. He proves his musical craft with this mix of musical instruments. His song have a brilliantly fixed repetition of words from the late legend and pioneer of the Afrobeat Fela Kuti, It’s no wonder it’s put Mura K.E  in the map amongst the AFRIMA2017, Best Male Artist in the Eastern Africa category.

Octopizzo

Hip hop Artist, Octopizzo from Kenya is also a nominee for the AFRIMA2017, Best Male Artist in the Eastern Africa category for his latest hit track “TBT.” Having listened and influenced by hip hop legends like 2pac, Jay Z and Eminem, Octopizzo perfected his aptitude for rapping. He started off his career as a freestyle rapper, emerging as winner of various freestyle competitions. In 2008 his mix tape titled “S.O.N” was the bestselling in Kenyan Hip Hop history.  Although Octopizzo recorded mostly in his dialect you still perceive the expertise in his flows.

Henok & Mehari Brothers

Henok and the Mehari Brothers are also nominated for the AFRIMA2017, Best Male Artist in the Eastern Africa category, for their track “Fikir Yishala.” The brothers who began as backup for other artists, now grace audiences with music of their own. With Henok Mehari on Key and vocals, Robel Mehari on guiter, Lwam Mehari on bass, Halal Mehari on drums, Tes Famariam Elias on keys and Zelalem Nigatu on drums, the brothers storm the pop world. The song “Fikir Yishala” displays a lively and energetic team creating good music.

The 2017 AFRIMA will hold from November 10 to 12. The scheduled events are The Africa Music Business Roundtable on Friday, November 10 at the Ballroom, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos by 9:30AM; attendance is subject to registration on the AFRIMA website, www.afrima.org.

Other main events are the AFRIMA Music Village, an evening of a non-stop open music festival of live performances from the African stars and nominees, with an expected audience of 40,000 people, on Friday November 10, at the Waterfront, Bar Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos by 6PM. Attendance will be activated by the purchase of the AFRIMA 2017 Tee-Shirts on the AFRIMA website and at designated points.

 The Main Awards Ceremony (November 12, Red Carpet 4PM, Awards Live 7:30 PM); a world-class event will happen at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. There will be live performances from star-studded artistes and television broadcast to 84 countries on 109 television stations around the world.
