Omara “Bombino” Moctar is a Nigerien singer-songwriter and guitarist. His music is sung in Tamasheq and often address geopolitical concerns in Tuareg.

Bombino was raised as a Muslim and taught to consider honor, dignity and generosity as principal tenets of life.

Bombino | 5th AFRIMA Ghana 2018 | All Africa Music AwardsBombino’s first internationally released album, Agadez, was produced by Ron Wyman and released in April 2011 on Cumbancha Records. He is the subject of the documentary film Agadez, the Music and the Rebellion.

He is also a lead member of Group Bombino. He enjoyed great worldwide acclaim for the album and toured all over the world throughout 2011 and 2012 to further his music and his cause.

In November 2017, Bombino and his group traveled to Casablanca, Morocco to record his latest album, Deran (2018, Partisan Records). “My mission for this album was always to get closer to Africa,” he says.

Not surprising then that the decision was made to record ‘Deran’ as close as possible to his native Niger in the southern Sahara.

Now the album has been nominated and about to emerge as the best Album of the year at the #5thAFRIMA-Ghana 2018. Push up the winning chances with your vote.
