Christian Syren is the co-founder and director of Making Music Productions (MMP), an event and project management company in South Africa.

The Swedish music professional finally relocated to South Africa in 1985 and has since played a vital role in the music industry in South Africa.

His company provided the technical facilities for Nelson Mandela’s speech on release on 11 February 1990 and produced “Mandela Elect Concert” in April 1994.

MMP also contributed to the re-building of South Africa’s cultural life, through numerous tours and cultural exchange projects in South Africa and neighbouring countries featuring top African artists such as Manu Dibango, Salif Keita, Ismael Lo, Angelique Kidjo, Cheick Lo, Papa Wemba and Zap Mama to name a few.

Re-Connection culminated in the provision of several major African Artists to President Mbeki’s inauguration in 1999, under the banner: “Faranani-Towards the African Century.

Syren owned the Jazz Den Jazz Club (1986-1990), a Live music venue in central Cape Town which serves as a platform for national afro-jazz and contemporary African artists with a pronounced anti-apartheid profile. The venue became a cultural focal point during the state of emergency in South Africa, and attracted a large regular audience.

Besides his musical expertise, Syren served in the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) and Middle East (UNEF). He holds an M.SOC. SCI, MA and BA degrees in Psychology.
