HAZEL MAK FOUGHT IT OUT TO WIN THE 5TH AFRIMA CATEGORY FOR BEST AFRICAN ACT IN DIASPORA

The Best African Act in Diaspora is one of AFRIMA category meant to cater to music artiste in the Diaspora with African roots, who have done exceedingly well in creating a niche for themselves in the music industry.

This category was one of the newly added 4 categories for the 5th AFRIMA. This came to be as a response to the yearnings of AFRIMA Music Stakeholders which included the AFRIMA Academy of Voters, members of the International Committee of AFRIMA, DJ’s, dancers and artistes in diaspora.

The category featured variety of African Artiste with a wide spread of fan base both home and abroad. They include; Afrotonix from Chad; Aya Nakamura from Mali; Chick Nick from Cameroon; Dadju from DRC; Franglish from DRC; Hazel Mak from Malawi; L’Algérino from Algeria; and Oudy 1er from Guinea.

The Malawian Afro-soul/RnB singer Hazel Mak who is based in the United Kingdom emerged winner of the category. The songbird began her music career at a tender age of 11 in Malawi. Her song titled Jaiva alongside Roberto & Tay Grin won her the slot.
