M’Vula, the most prized Nu Metal/Rap-Rock Band from Angola

M’Vula, one of the most prized Nu metal/Rap-rock band from Angola, comprise of great talents with varied expertise in the business of music. They include Lil Jorge (Rapper and Vocalist), Paulo Albuquerque (Lead Guitarist), M.G (Vocalist), Hugo Domingos (Bass & Guitar), Bruno Braz (bass & Guitar), and Michel Marques (Drums). They sing in Portuguese and English.

M’Vula, a name which originates from the expression M’vula or N’vula, is of African origin and means rain or storm in various languages ​​across Africa. Their music inspiration often stems from the energy of the society in which the band finds itself.

The Angolan based band who pioneered their brand of music have recorded success with their EP, and later an album titled ‘Focus’ which was released in November 2017 under the production of Sony Music Label.

Most of the songs in this album address the daily lives of the Angolan people, such as the difficulties, anxieties, sadness, and joys of people living in rural areas and beyond. An album that has been described to contain powerful and captivating sounds, credited for its clear recording and production despite challenges being faced by Rock bands in the country.

According to reports, part of M’Vula’s objectives is to bring Angolan music to the continent. And efforts have been put into achieving this, as they are presently on a tour for their Focus Album, going around 5 cities across Africa; Bamako (Mali), Libreville (Gabon), Maputo (Mozambique), Brazzaville (Republic of Congo) and Dakar (Senegal). The band also have fans across Europe as they have performed twice at the International Bike Gathering, an annual musical concert/conference.

M’vula won ”Best Artiste in African Rock” at the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA in the year 2015 and 2016 consecutively.
