Queen of Music in Southern Africa

The 2017 All Africa Music Awards saw the beautiful South African “Thandiswa” emerge winner, best female artiste in Southern Africa. A feat she graciously pulled off with her single “Nonsokolo”. Among those who contended in this category were Sally Boss Madam, Lebo Sekgoela, Busiswa, Babes Wodumo and Amanda Black.

Thandiswa Mazai was born in Eastern Cape in 1976 – the year of the Soweto Uprising and grew up almost entirely in Soweto, Johannesburg. She is widely recognised as the voice of South Africa’s conscious youth, her compositions consistently combining dance floor favourites with thought-provoking lyrics.

Thandiswa has been opportune to perform on several stages across the continent, and has shared stage with musical icons like Stevie Wonder, the Marley clan, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Chaka Khan, Sean Paul, Steel Pulse and Skunk Anansie, among others.

The year 2018 have experienced an influx of great music from top contenders in the Southern African region, from divas in Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

As you have come to understand, AFRIMA seeks to recognize and celebrate excellence in the African music scene, while promoting our unique culture and creativity, this year’s award ceremony tagged 5th AFRIMA promises to be exciting, giving room for more creativity, and expanding the playing field.

The online portal of AFRIMA have been recording tons of entries from artiste across the globe via its website. This only shows that it will be a battle where the best contenders scuffle it out for the AFRIMA 2018 23.9 Carat gold plated trophy.
