The Song after the Fan’s Heart

The whole of Africa unites to decide which music artist within the second largest continent in the world has their heart, in the African Fan’s Favorite category of the AFRIMA 2017 awards.

The nominated artists in the African Fan’s Favorite category are


From Tanzania we have the easy to love Hip-hop artist Darassa featuring Ben Pol with “Muziki.” Each artiste adding elements that made the song a phenomenal one.  The Tanzanian rapper/songwriter and CEO of Classic Music Group collaborates with Ben Pol for the second time since the release of “Sikati Tamaa” in 2014. Darassa believes that Ben Pol brings to the song the right ingredient that tunes it down from being too Hip-Hop . The rapper shows a trait of Hip-hop proficiency in “Muziki” as he slowly spices it with accurate flows to achieve the mixture of Hip Hop and traditional instrumentation.  Darassa is a contender for the AFRIMA2017 African Fans Favorite category.


The multiple award-winning South African R&B and Afro-House singer Donald, whose musical talent was first discovered at a young age in the choir. He first rose to fame in 2011 after his debut single “I Deserve” featuring Tiwa savage. This new single, soul charming and soothing song “Rain Drops” that earns him a place among the Nominees of the AFRIMA2017 African Fans Favorite category.



The dark and lovely singer Ebony from Accra, Ghana, who majors in the dancehall and Afrobeat genre, first came into Ghana’s spotlight in 2015 after the release of her first single and radio hit “Dance Floor,” her second “Kupe” was in 2016, which was a major hit in Ghana and other African countries. Ebony releases this rave single “Poison” featuring Gatdoe, a dance hall hit that earns her a place among the contestants in AFRIMA2017 African Fans Favorite category.


Nyanshiki is a singer and rapper from Kenya is also nominated for his hit track “Aminia” a brilliantly created hip-hop video and song that exhibits some features of the early and original, west coast rap, and a Nyanshiki’s modern and distinct style of music. Nyanshiki is a rapper who knows what kind of flow is fitting for every drift in the beat and so it’s no surprise that he is a nominee for the for the AFRIMA2017 African Fans Favorite category.


Kandia Kora

From Guinea we have Kandia Kora, who is one of the few artists who had music for a heritage. Having been born into a family with a Kora player for a father and a Musical Soloist for an uncle, Kandia was born into a path that headed towards music. Majoring in Mandinka, hip-hop,Makosa and Afro-jazz, Kandia had his first significant success in music after his single “Zenab Mansare” and in 2016 after the release of his album “Fais Bisous”.  But with his latest single “Retirer” which earned him a place amongst the Afrima2017 nominees for the African Fans Favorite category, Kandia has shown that music is not just a heritage for him, but a gift.

 Nonso Amadi

The novel and bright R&B singer Nonso Amadi from Nigeria is also nominated in the AFRIMA2017 African Fans Favorite category for his self-produced hit track “Tonight”. Nonso, who resides in Canada, has been in the music business since he produced the song “Burna Boy” in 2013. He only infiltrated the hearts of Africans after the release of “Tonight” in 2015, and in 2017 he put a face to the trending melody when he released a premium video to the song “Tonight”.


The Nigerian people’s hip-hop artist Olamide, is amongst the nominees for the AFRIMA2017 African Fans Favorite category, for his song “Pepper Dem Gang” from his sixth Studio album “Glory”. The singer, songwriter, rapper, and CEO of YBNL Nation, began his career in music in 2000 but entered into his music limelight in 2011, after the release of his debut album “Rhapsody.” Olamide records mostly in Yoruba, his native tongue, but does it in such way that he carries all audience along. Teaming up with Devolee of YBNL, Olamide presents this fun track “Pepper Dem gang,” that earns him a place in this category.

  The Dogg

From Namibia, music producer, and hip-hop artist, The Dogg is also nominated for the AFRIMA2017 African Fans Favorite category for his song “Shukifa kwii”. The Dogg started performing in high school, at school concerts but dropped out of the university to chase his  music dream, he rose to fame after his single in 2003 titled “Shimaliw Osatana,”  The Dogg released his first debut album in 2004 “Jesus Otati” and is currently the highest awarded artist in Namibia and one of the highest selling. His AFRIMA2017 nominated song for the African Fans Favorite category is a beautifully produced song with well-laid flows to brilliant instrumentals.

 Young Paris

We also have the dance electronic music star Young Paris from D.R.C with “The Best Me” a song that defines the term cool. This music Artist who was born in France and raised in New York by Congolese parents allows his different cultural experiences to influence and drive his music. With a vision to bring in a new wave of music, based on his roots and culture, the Artistic Director, music producer and songwriter uses Afro beats rhythms mixed with EDM, Trap, and Pop. And from such fine mix comes the AFRIMA2017 African Fans Favorite nominated track “The Best Me” that displays raw talent in the Young Paris.

The 2017 AFRIMA will hold from November 10 to 12. The scheduled events are The Africa Music Business Roundtable on Friday, November 10 at the Ballroom, Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos by 9:30AM; attendance is subject to registration on the AFRIMA website,

Other main events are the AFRIMA Music Village, an evening of a non-stop open music festival of live performances from the African stars and nominees, with an expected audience of 40,000 people, on Friday November 10, at the Waterfront, Bar Beach, Victoria Island, Lagos by 6PM. Attendance will be activated by the purchase of the AFRIMA 2017 Tee-Shirts on the AFRIMA website and at designated points.

The Main Awards Ceremony (November 12, 4PM Red Carpet, 7:30 Awards Live); a world-class event will happen at the Convention Centre, Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos. There will be live performances from star-studded artistes and television broadcast to 84 countries on 109 television stations around the world.
